
Mid Engine AWD Understeer Fix
Note: mid-engine AWD cars — like the Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Huracán, or Audi R8 — are incredibly capable machines, but understeer can still be a persistent issue, especially in lower-speed corners or on throttle. These cars often use AWD systems tuned for stability, which, combined with a rearward engine and powerful acceleration, can push the front tires past their grip limit.

Fixes

Entry Phase (usually caused by overloading of front tires)

increase rear brake balance (prevents front tires from overloading and sliding)

soften front springs (increases front grip)

soften rear compression damping (to slow the rear's rise and maintain grip / slow rotation - in mid-engine cars, where weight is already well balanced and rotation can happen quickly, too much rear unloading too fast can disrupt the balance and cause front tire overload or inconsistent rotation)

soften front ARB (to increase front compliance)

increase front negative camber (improves grip on cornering)

Mid-Corner (too much front stiffness or too soft or grippy rear, to much rear aero)​

Exit Phase (poor car rotation - too much rear grip, too much front rebound stiffness, front tires being unloaded by early throttle)

shift power balance rearward (prevents power understeer and lets rear rotate more easily, reduces workload on front tires)

stiffen rear springs (prevents the rear from squatting excessively during throttle application and ensures rotation before throttle application)

soften front rebound damping (allows the front to settle quicker as you exit corner and therefore regain grip)

more front negative camber (maintains better tire contact under lateral load, especially if the front is lightening during throttle. This supports cornering grip during acceleration, helping keep the front end from pushing wide)

stiffen rear ARB (supports rear rotation)
